View of snow-capped mountains from the studio in Grenoble, ski base camp

A Grenoble base camp for your ski trips

Sleeping in a ski resort is expensive, books out months in advance and locks you into a single ski area. The alternative locals know well: sleep in Grenoble and branch out. From the studio, you can be on the slopes at Chamrousse in 35 minutes, Alpe d'Huez in 55 minutes, Les Deux Alpes in an hour.

Between ski days, you enjoy a real city: restaurants, cinemas, shops open in the evening. And the studio is mountain-ready, with space to store skis and boots.

Four mountain ranges around the city

Grenoble is ringed by ski areas: Chamrousse in Belledonne (35 min), the Col de Porte and its Nordic area in Chartreuse (35 min), Villard-de-Lans and Lans-en-Vercors in the Vercors (about 40 min), and the Oisans giants, Alpe d'Huez (55 min) and Les Deux Alpes (1h). Every morning you pick your resort based on weather, snow conditions and crowds.

Why sleep in the city rather than in a resort

Budget first: resort accommodation often costs twice as much in high season. Flexibility next: no Saturday-to-Saturday booking constraints, and the freedom to change ski areas every day. Comfort finally: in the evening you come back to Grenoble's restaurants and city-center buzz rather than a sleepy resort, and you skip the mountain road at night.

What about without a car?

In winter, seasonal coach lines connect Grenoble to the main resorts from the bus station, right next to the train station, 5-10 minutes' walk from the studio. You can also rent a car at the station for just a day or two. Arriving by TGV on Friday evening, skiing all weekend and heading back Sunday is entirely doable.

In summer, the mountains too

The same studio makes an excellent summer base camp: hiking in Chartreuse and the Vercors, the legendary Oisans passes by road bike, mountain biking, climbing, or simply riding the cable car up to the Bastille from the city center. The mountain view from the apartment is a constant reminder of why people come to Grenoble.
