Every morning you pick your resort based on weather, snow conditions and crowds.
Budget first: resort accommodation often costs twice as much in high season. Flexibility next: no Saturday-to-Saturday booking constraints, and the freedom to change ski areas every day. Comfort finally: in the evening you come back to Grenoble's restaurants and city-center buzz rather than a sleepy resort, and you skip the mountain road at night.
In winter, seasonal coach lines connect Grenoble to the main resorts from the bus station, right next to the train station, 5-10 minutes' walk from the studio. You can also rent a car at the station for just a day or two. Arriving by TGV on Friday evening, skiing all weekend and heading back Sunday is entirely doable.
The same studio makes an excellent summer base camp: hiking in Chartreuse and the Vercors, the legendary Oisans passes by road bike, mountain biking, climbing, or simply riding the cable car up to the Bastille from the city center. The mountain view from the apartment is a constant reminder of why people come to Grenoble.
